Ripple Primary School - Enabling Works
Prior to the main construction of the new single-storey classroom block at Ripple Primary School, enabling works played a vital role in setting the project up for safe and efficient delivery within a live educational environment. The tight, constrained location within the playground—surrounded by residential housing and adjacent to key transport routes—required a carefully phased approach. Early enabling works included the segregation of the site from the main school using secure hoarding and fencing, establishment of a designated site access route with minimal disruption to school operations, and installation of temporary services and welfare facilities. In conjunction with the client team, we also undertook thorough surveys and service isolations, which were critical due to the site's limited working space and the need to avoid disruption to the existing school infrastructure.
Due to the site’s location within a live school and proximity to homes and public infrastructure, safeguarding and stakeholder engagement were central to our enabling works strategy. Our team implemented a robust safeguarding plan from day one, working collaboratively with the school’s Safeguarding Lead to develop appropriate access controls, signage, and daily working practices that kept pupils, staff, and visitors safe. All personnel underwent DBS checks and safeguarding training prior to commencing work. Additionally, early communication with local residents and the school community helped manage expectations and minimise disruption during the preparatory phase. These enabling works laid a solid foundation for the successful construction of the new classroom block while maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders.
