West Wickham - Enabling Works
The enabling works for the West Wickham Library & Housing Development project were a critical foundation for the successful delivery of both the library expansion and integration with the adjacent housing development. These works involved careful planning and execution to facilitate safe and efficient access to the site, including the diversion of existing utilities, demolition of non-structural elements, and the installation of temporary works. Early engagement with stakeholders ensured that disruption to the operational library and local community was minimised. Site clearance and ground preparation were completed to tight timescales, enabling follow-on trades to progress without delay and in line with programme milestones.
Particular attention was given to coordinating the enabling works to support the seamless delivery of key community facilities such as the event gallery, business lounge, and outdoor classroom. As the library remained partially in use during certain phases, phasing strategies and robust hoarding solutions were employed to maintain public safety and continuity of service. A key element of the enabling phase was ensuring the infrastructure was in place for modern M&E systems, particularly those supporting the enhanced IT and maker spaces. These works laid the groundwork for a high-quality, multi-functional community hub that reflects modern service delivery while aligning with the wider urban regeneration goals of the London Borough of Bromley.
