Imperial College London CAT-B Fit Out–The internal reconfiguration from the base build CAT-A fit out within the newbuilding ‘Scale space ‘development. The new configuration includes the coordination of services to the new arrangement including modification to the existing MEP engineering services installations. We were required to develop the contract design and apply to the existing base build design and coordinate the exiting services. Works included new partitions and structural shell installation for a folding partition wall.

Early validation surveys were undertaken by our M&E designers which presented some issues with the lighting control system. Our issue was that another contractor who completed the CAT A works had not taken a lot of considerations into account, so our validation surveys presented problems that we could jump on straight away, work in partnership with the client to get resolutions/recommendations put into place. I am very proud to say that this project was completed successfully despite the numerous issues encountered, but because of our early engagement and communication, we were able to keep on track with the programme.

Programming had to be changed constantly on this project due to all the issues–probably one our most challenging. But with an understanding client, regular communication and careful programming we were able to finish slightly over time, but with a happy client.

We held weekly Microsoft Teams meetings with the design team, the client and other stakeholders to ensure everyone knew at all times what was happening, and this proved, not only to cement relationships, but to provide a new way of working, which we have since adopted.
