Ripple Primary School
Ripple Primary School Suffolk Road site is in a predominantly residential area and is situated on the corner of Suffolk Road and Surrey Road, Barking, London. The Ripple Road A123 flyover runs immediately to the south of Suffolk Road, and the District Line between Barking and Upney runs to the north of Surrey Road. The site is approximately 400m to the south-east of the centre of Barking and approximately 1.5km north of the River Thames.
The project provided a traditional single storey, brick and block building to form three new reception classrooms and associated facilities. The new building is located to the rear of the school within the playground and is very tight for space including access to the works area. The school is surround by residential properties.
With the majority of work being undertaken within the occupied schools, we were aware of the specialist requirements regarding safeguarding when working in close proximity with children / vulnerable people.
Prior to starting onsite, we were hit with the first wave of the Covid lockdown so works came to a halt. Once we were able to return, we held several H&S meetings with the Headteacher to ensure our working practices were compliant and that he was happy to continue. Fortunately, the only children on site were those of Key Workers so it was easier for us to continue without causing too much disruption.
Headteacher, Roger Mitchell, said, “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of ARC. Their donation of 10 laptops for our children came out of the blue. These will help 10 of our most disadvantaged pupils access the online learning that we are providing during the lockdown. It will make a real difference to their lives and learning. I can’t thank ARC enough for this wonderful gift to our pupils.
