Walthamstow Coroner’s Court
The Walthamstow Coroner’s Court project involved a comprehensive design and refurbishment of the existing court accommodations, along with the construction of ground and first-floor extensions. These enhancements were aimed at providing improved office facilities and the addition of a second courthouse. The project also included extensive external landscaping, the demolition of the existing mortuary and the construction of a new UKPN building.
Key Works:
- Court Extensions & Office Facilities: the project included the construction of ground and first-floor extensions to the existing court buildings, significantly improving the functionality and capacity of the court. The new spaces were designed to accommodate enhanced office facilities and the addition of a second courthouse to better serve the needs of the community
- External Landscaping & Demolition: we undertook associated landscaping works to enhance the external environment of the court. The project also involved the careful demolition of the existing mortuary and the construction of a brand-new UKPN building, ensuring that the site met modern standards and requirements
- Logistical Challenges: the project presented several logistical challenges, particularly concerning material deliveries. The driveway leading to the mortuary and courthouses was extremely narrow, requiring the constant presence of a banksman throughout the contract to manage deliveries safely and efficiently
- Grade II Listed Lodge: the site included a Grade II listed Lodge, necessitating careful consideration and preservation efforts during the refurbishment process. Our team worked meticulously to respect the historical significance of the building while integrating necessary modern upgrades
